![]() I tried to install Fedora29 onto an empty ssd partition but it did not seem to like that so I dusted off an old platter drive and got it going on there. I have been banging away at this on and off the last few days. ![]() Okay, I did try to re-installing SC4 and only got to about 98% then it came up with a different set of error messages, then it just froze and I had to do a hard power off. How do I install PlayOnLinux, I'm primarily a user of Fedora, and really know nothing about programming, I use Linux 'cos it's a lot quicker than Windoze. Going back to your previous topic I see you are running Fedora 29 The alternative is if you have tried this in Wine is to install PlayonLinux and see if that works any better, you have the choice on running one of the installer scripts that someone had made or trying out the non-listed installer. If its still running slow, about the only thing I can suggest is re-installing and making sure you note down the error messages, while it is frustrating on the plus side over the years given the number of people who have tried installing SimCity on Linux there is bound to be someone who's had the same error message. There's also a method for instructing SC4 to recognise your graphics card as "fast" which might be useful. Just add either -d:DirectX or -d:Software to this to your game's Target shortcut, and the GOG game may already have the -CPUcount:1 added which restricts the processor to a single core that helps with stability. It is possible to toggle between rendering modes of hardware or software using a command line option. For general sluggish performance though, it's quite difficult to pinpoint that specifically as it's very much hardware dependent. Loading time would be increased by any custom content you've installed to Plugins, where more items means more memory is needed. For it running slowly, is that in terms of the time it takes to load, or lagging while scrolling in a city? Glad to hear you did get the game running. I suspect it might be relating to the setup of help documentation which more likely won't impact the ability to run SC4 as a standalone installation. Someone else who has the GOG installation might be able to confirm whether that "support installer" is integral to SC4 or not. Or it could be worth checking the permissions of that directory path, including "ProgramData" and "GOG.com" in the root of your C:\ drive. I'm not sure how this works on systems other than Windows, but if there's a way to run the installer with elevated privileges (like as an Administrator), then it might allow that to complete successfully. To me that looks as if the installer is attempting to overwrite the existing uninstall.dll file inside the "\supportInstaller" folder, but it's failing due to lack of permissions. I hope I didn't bother you and maybe someone haven't heard of it yet and I could make his gaming weekend.I have uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it but I got an error box, what do I need to do.? If you cannot get WINE, DXVK, multi-monitor, multi grapics cards and whatnot to work (or you hate the hassle around it), you will love Lutris and it's simplicity. If you game on Linux, you should definitely give Lutris a try. I just wanted to use the GOG Galaxy 2.0 disappointment (for no Linux support) to let more people know about this. I know it's widely known for now and often recommended, but every day there are still awesome Linux folks out there that don't know about this wonderful piece of software. This software is, pun intended, a game changer. You're missing one feature? Start with a team on it or request. Lutris (and its forums) are fast and provide solutions quickly It's not like PlayOnLinux, where you have to wait weeks until something gets fixed. ![]() Don't fuck around with WINE and advanced configs - press Install and let Lutris do the job Gather everything you game on your Linux machine: from native Linux games, over Steam and GOG, also your emulator runners (like N64 or whatever), DOSBox and a shitload more of it! But it's a native solution and also comes with several advantages: Yes, it doesn't come with a friend list or chat and is basically just a wrapper for every other service (including GOG and Steam). Real bummer, that GOG Galaxy 2.0 still has no Linux support (though that was kind of obvious).īut the Linux community already has an awesome launcher for games: Lutris ![]()
